Import and export FAQ

Updated:

On this page
  1. Import CSV files
  2. Export files and create backups

To bring spreadsheet data into Clastly, or to open Clastly data in a spreadsheet, use the CSV format. To also save collection settings and attachments, use a backup.

Import CSV files

Can I add CSV rows to an existing collection?

Importing CSV or TSV creates a new collection. Adding to or updating an existing collection isn’t supported.

Can I import a CSV saved in Excel with Shift JIS encoding?

Yes. Clastly can import CSV files encoded as UTF-8, UTF-16 with a BOM, or Shift JIS.

Which field types can I choose during import?

You can choose Text, Number, Date, Checkbox, Single Select, Multi Select, and URL. Types such as Location, File, Formula, Relation, and Rollup aren’t available.

Export files and create backups

Will exporting and reimporting a CSV restore everything as it was?

CSV exports field values as text. Formulas and rollups become calculated results, and attachments become file names. Column types are inferred during import, so CSV doesn’t preserve all original settings and types.

To save collection settings, relations, saved views, and attachments together, see Back up and restore your data.

Does restoring a backup erase my current data?

Your existing data stays. You can skip duplicate collections or add them as copies. If attachments that aren’t on your device couldn’t be retrieved, they aren’t included in the backup. Review the warning after creating it.

Do I need Clastly Pro?

CSV and TSV import, CSV export, and backup and restore are free.
